Judge Madelyn Cooper never shows signs of weakness, but when a killer threatens her daughter's life, Maddie does what any mother would do. Run to the place where her daughter will be safe. And that place is Greendale, Texas. Maddie left Greendale fourteen years earlier, pregnant, broke, and without saying a word to Rand McCade. What could she say after her father killed his parents?
Rand McCade is determined to keep Greendale safe. As Sheriff, he promised there would be no repeats of the horrible day when his parents were murdered. Now Maddie is back, bringing trouble with her once again. And this time, she has a daughter. His daughter.
As a psychopath sets his sights on Maddie, Rand and Maddie must figure out who is after her, and why, before someone else ends up dead.

I am a sucker for a second chances romance story. I buy it, I read it and I eat it up like verbal chocolate. This starts out in the past with a teenage pregnancy and then skips ahead to present times. I feel like I might be describing my own life story so I like that the teen mother ends up doing good, finishing school and becoming a successful judge. I'm not a judge but I did everything else on the list so I got caught up in the story like it was my own.I didn't like that Madelyn Cooper doesn't tell the future father, Rand about the pregnancy. That does bother me. Men get a bad reputation for leaving the child raising to the ladies, but people should still give them a chance to prove themselves as parents, as fathers.
There was a real mystery that was complex because of multiple motivations, I was a little scared at times. I don't like horror or scary in my books, but it was well done. I didn't like the one-time-we-made-a-baby plot device, but it was a sideline and not the basis of making the relationship so I was well satisfied with the HEA.

Lone Star Justice Southern Justice Book 1 edition by Tori Scott Romance eBooks Reviews
This is my first time to read this author and I was very impressed. The plot was not predictable and I was engaged throughout the entire book trying to figure out the dynamics of each character. Good job! I will definitely be reading more of your books.
Good Read; loved the suspense
This was an exciting, interesting, entertaining book. It kept you enthralled in what might come to pass next. One character is much less than friendly and engaging, unlike the family included in the last book. The ending is perfect!
Very good book. My first time reading this authors. I will be reading more.
Stumbled onto this book while searching for something new. The cover got my attention, ummmm. The story was good from the start. I finished it in one setting, shutting off the light at 4am this morning.
I will not give anything away, but to find a your first love the second time around. Well......nothing better than that.
I will look for more from this author in the future. If you like a 'home grown' sheriff dedicated to his town, you can't go wrong with this "turn the page" romantic/mystery.
Maddie returns to her hometown with her daughter in hopes of escaping danger in the big city. Only thing is, her high school boyfriend, Rand, is now the sheriff and they didn't separate on good terms. Both Maddie and Rand try to avoid interaction, Maddie even trying not to let Rand know about her situation - after all, she is safe in small town USA, right? Tori Scott does a good job of spinning the story and providing background without getting tedious. It just fits when she fills in some background. She has the reader doubting everyone and provides the motivation that drives the threat in the end.
It seems like many romantic suspense books get kinda irritating because you figure out "whodunit" right away and the rest of the book you just shake your head wondering why the H/h can't figure it out. This one kept surprising me ... lots of twists and turns but they all fit together to make a believable story. I liked the characters. I liked how Rand was protective, but still allowed the independent Maddie to keep her pride. I loved how all the characters interacted with each other, especially a very sweet father/daughter scene where Rand unknowingly makes a wish come true. (I may have even gotten a little teary-eyed there!) I liked the writing style and I thought it all came together naturally. I would read this again and I would recommend it to friends. Nice job!
